- 7 Steps to a Pain-Free Life: How to Rapidly Relieve Back and Neck
Pain Using the McKenzie Method - by Robin A. McKenzie and Craig
Kubey. Robin McKenzie is a physical therapist who has spent the last
40 years perfecting the McKenzie Method.
- The McKenzie Method is a set of seven specific exercises (the
book includes seven exercises each for the back and neck) . It's
based on the premise that distortion of the spinal disks, either
from bad posture or injury, is the cause of most back pain. The
exercises permit the spine to return to its natural position.
- The first 3 exercises all start the same way: face down on your
belly, head turned to one side. Progressively, through the first
3 of 7 exercises, you arch your back backwards toward the sky...while
allowing your pelvis "to sag" toward earth
- Iillustrated with over 100 photos and many real-life case histories.
Includes instructions for people who suffer from back and neck
pain (with appropriate cautions regarding when to call a medical
professional) as well as for pregnant women, athletes, and seniors.
- 3.5 million people have bought McKenzie's book Treat
Your Own Back and more than 2 million have his book Treat
Your Own Neck.
- If you have a bad back, you can't not buy this book.

- Healing Back Pain: The Mind-Body Connection - by John E. Sarno
- It focuses on one particular cause of back pain - Tension Myositis
Syndrome (TMS).
- Sarno proposes that TMS is the major cause of pain in the back,
neck, shoulders, buttocks, and limbs, and that it is caused not
by structural abnormalities but by the mind's effort to repress
emotions. Not that the pain is all in your head, but rather that
your mind is generating a real physical disorder that may affect
muscles, nerves, tendons, or ligaments. An injury may trigger
the disorder, but isn't the true cause of the the resulting pain.
The mind refocuses its repressed emotion into the body generating
pain in your muscles, nerves, tendons, or ligaments.
- It the McKenzie exercises don't work for you, then this approach
should. Together they cover all the bases.
